other summer activities

While Jacob was on break we got to do a few other fun things. We finally made it over to coit tower and got to check out the view. It was fun but I don't know if I would pay to go up the tower again. We then headed over to the Wells Fargo Museum. Very fun and free! Jacob also did a lot of golfing during his break. He wants me to get into but I am having a hard time. I do like riding in the cart though. Lastly Jacob got to go the the Giants game that was a no hitter. He said it was very exciting.

White Coat Ceremony!!!

Cavities beware, Dr Rogers is here!

A few weeks ago UoP had their White Coat Ceremony. This means Jacob now has his very own dental coat and can now see patients! It was a great ceremony with a brunch followed by a few speeches that were short and sweet. The students then received their coats and said a dental oath of integrity and what not.

Fourth of July Festivities

This years fourth of july was spent in Albuquerque and Southern Colorado. We went camping with Jacobs family and extended fam in Colorado. It was a blast! We went four wheeling, played horseshoes, made smores, and sang songs. We then headed back to New Mexico and lit fireworks in the caulde sac in front of their house. It was a great vacation visiting jacob's family and relaxing.

kaui videos

This is a video of my crazy father. I don't know how my mom puts up with his fearlessness. After watching all the other boys go on the rope swing he felt the need to one up everyone and this is what happend lol.

He was a good sport and put up with us watching this video over and over while laughing.

This is Jacob and I on the double zipline.

Kauai!!!

I've procrastinated as long as I could. A little bit ago Jacob had his summer break from dental school and I took a week off from cosmetology and we joined my family in the beautiful island of Kauai. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

We went to several different beaches and played

Realized the best restaraunt on the island was Dad's BBQ

Got forced into boogie boarding

enjoyed the scenery

Heard roosters crow all day long

madeout under a cool tree

went gofling for $9 with a great view

Went ziplining

crossed a suspension bridge

went to a waterfall for lunch

went on a catamaran

hiked to a rope swing/waterfall

can you find the lizard?

I wanted to add some cool videos of us ziplining and on the rope swing but my computer is being to slow:(
maybe another day

One Year Down, Two to Go

I am done with my first year of dental school (actually, I was done a month ago, but I guess it has taken a while to sink in). Tomorrow I officially start my second year of dental school in which I will no longer be working on plastic teeth that can be replaced at will - I will be working on live patients. It's exciting and frightening at the same time. Somehow, in the last year, I have been taught most of what I need to give basic dental care to my patients - and somehow I've been deemed competent enough to do so. That's right folks, within the coming weeks I will be handling sharp, fast-spinning instruments in and around real people. So, in order to calm the nerves of any future patients, as well as my own I took a look back at the last year to see what has been accomplised in my first year of dental school...

I've taken:
40 midterms
50 quizzes
25 finals
that's a total of 115 scantrons and some went better than others:
In Fixed Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry, Dental Anatomy and Endodontics, we've had:
100 Projects for check-off or grade
30 practical examinations

Again, some went better than others:
In the last year I've walked more than 300 miles to and from school and travelled to Philadelphia, DC and Phoenix as a student representative

Despite all the projects, tests and travelling I've been privileged to make great friends and enjoy the beautiful city of San Francisco.
I've done all this and more for no less than $100,000. It's been the most expensive year of my life, but I have no complaints. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year of dental school with all the ups and downs, good and bad grades and lost sleep. Would I do it again? Hm....call me masochistic, but if I had to, I would do it again.

Now, I could never do it again with out my biggest support and I could never have made it through this last year without the love, support and encouragement of my beautiful wife Morgan. I love you Morgan!

Golf and Bocce Ball

Jacob's school recenlty had a golf tournament for the students. It was a dreary day but they still managed to have fun. They played in teams of four and Jacob's team won a prize... for coming in last place.
The losing team won a box of golf balls.

On another note Jacob and I had our fisrt experiance playing Bocce Ball. A couple over in Marin booked a court for some of us to play. It was super fun and the weather was beautiful.
The boys measuring to make sure there was no cheating.
Nice form Jacob

We won our first game with our team members, Emily and Tim, but lost the second.

The amazing shot I had that no one beat :)
The whole gang.
